Giant Squid Summer School Challenge #2 "Prized Possession"

Most Prized Possession

As part of the Giant Squid Summer School, participating Giants receive a specific weekly lensmaking challenge. They have a week to work on the lens, and then post it below to "turn in" their homework and show that it's done.

The Summer School lensmaking challenge #2 was this: We asked the Giants to create a lens about their most prized possession.

We asked them to tell us how they came to own it, what path it took to get to them, how they use it, why they like it, what it means to them.

Here's what the Giant Squid Summer School Class of 2009 came up with!

Assuming everything that can run has....I'd take my 3 volume set of Shelby Foote's Civil War: A Narrative. Writing that inspires me to the deepest levels. Hey, there's 3000 pages, I could always use them as a blanket on a park bench if I need.

I found the lens by Sojourn, HTML Borders Backgrounds (http://www.squidoo.com/html-backgrounds-) which gave me a much better way of introducing my cats in the lens I created for this assignment. If you have a chance look at my lens again (How to Fireproof your Cats (www.squidoo.com/fireproof-your-cats), tell me what you think. Thanks Sojourn. Bear hugs, Frankie

Robin, thank you so much for contacting me!!! I picked up a virus or something on Friday and it shut my computer down till I could work on it for about 5 hours the next day. I'm hoping I didn't pick it up by clicking on an affiliate link on a Squidoo lens, that's about all I can think of because Squidoo in pretty safe otherwise. I re-added the link to my assignment for week 2 and refreshed the lens and 'It Posted'!!! - I learned to stay off affiliate links since Friday no matter how good the person is or how good the lens sounds...and I'd like to pass that along. ---- I appreciate Squidoo for trying to stop the stop this site and decreasing affiliate links on lenses. I believe that will help. ---- I hope to see some great lenses for the next assignment and get caught-up on week two. Wow! I get an education from Squidoo lensmasters and their lenses.

Let's enjoy summer school assignments and be a blessing to everyone!

I don't see my lens listed that I turned in on the 26th. I was hoping to see it by Monday. Thanks so much for creating this great lens. The next assignment is going to be a challenge as well!

This was a tough assignment for me - but ended up being a very thought-provoking emergency lens! I may have slipped off-subject a bit, but in my imaginary emergency, I would have to have my purse! :)

For the second week running, I've spent ages deliberating what to write about...choosing topics and then mentally rejecting them...both times when inspiration has come, it seemed so obvious I wondered why on earth I'd spent so long looking for it!

Really enjoying these challenges...they're certainly making me think :)

I took a break from my computer this weekend. Turning it on for only short times. Finally able to finish this assignment. I chose the obvious choice with saving pictures, but my daughter chose something different.

It took me a couple of days to come up with the subject for this one, I found it really quite thought provoking. In the end I had to choose something of little material value that just cant be replaced... my dads umbrella.

I can't even get started on this. I think the problem is too many fire safety drills; my instinctive response to a burning house is: Get out, stay out, don't go back. Important posessions - ummm...they are all intangibles. Still thinking

This assignment became more than 'just another lens' - I wrote it for my family - many have been born since Dad died. It has been sitting by my chair for many years and I realized that I have nothing written down about what makes this cribbage table a prized possession. Thanks to the project I finally have it so I can add to my genealogy record too.
