That's right. Your teeth are NOT supposed to be the white that you see in the movies.
Just how white are they supposed to be?
I used to wonder the same thing. I would see those sparkly snow white teeth on television and then look at my own teeth which couldn't even come close! Not that they were quite yellow either, but you know, they just weren't bright white!

Why aren't they supposed to be white?
Your teeth contain calcium. And calcium is not a pure white substance. That in itself tells you that it is unnatural for teeth to be pure white, the white that you see on television and on those teeth whitening products.

Teeth are supposed to be ivory colored. Not white, not yellow either, but ivory. You know, the color of elephant tusks. When it is super clean, it has a very soft creamy look to it like what you see with ivory piano keys.

Well, if we were on a proper diet of mainly fruits, vegetables, and grains with just a little bit of meat for protein, our teeth wouldn't be as badly colored as some people's are.

Should you whiten your teeth?
Even though your teeth are NOT supposed to be white, there is nothing wrong with wanting white teeth as long as your not trying to go for the super bleached white teeth look.
If you use commercial teeth whitening products, please do use them carefully as sometimes they can cause your teeth to become even more sensitive. After all, you are basically bleaching your teeth and you know how powerful bleach is and how far it penetrates.
Another option that could help is a visual trick. And it's only for the ladies, sorry guys. This involves wearing red lipsticks. These provide contrast and will make your teeth look whiter. This only works if your teeth are stained yellow and the lipstick has blue undertones. If your teeth has graying tones, then this will only accentuate your teeth color.
