BookBabie Blogs About Six-Word Memoir in February 2008, Her Meme or Chain Letter Becomes A Huge Success

Last February, when the book was headed for the bestseller list, a blogger named BookBabie took ahold of the idea and the potential of the internet with the six-word memoir concept. The popularity of the idea may be attributed to the fact that it is easy to do (well, relatively) and anyone can submit their own memoir easily.

BookBabie turned the challenge into a 'meme'. A meme is similar to a chain letter in the blogging world. The meme asked you to write your memoir and add a link to someone else's blog. As a result of this and the books popularity, a search of the term 'six-word memoir' today will net over 350,000 hits.

Mrs. Nixon's Third-Graders' Six-Word Storybook

Smith launched the six-word memoir challenge in late 2006 and published the book early in 2008. I would say that the project has been like a runaway train. Since then the idea has taken off around the world and includes:

A reverend in North Carolina who gave six-word prayers.
A book blogger who created a six-word memoir "meme" that is active in thousands of blogs.
A Squidoo lens. (You are reading it!)
Classrooms around the world.

One class in South Jersey put together a beautiful booklet. Larry Smith visited the class and found that, "six graders are intense and intelligent little beasts, and that third graders are simply brilliant."

Quotes from that book include:

"Eight years old, combed hair twice." -Noah
"Hate some boys but like others." - Sarah
"Wish everyday was a bed day." - Emily
"Nine years stacked within my soul." - Laura
"A kids life is my life." - Kion

To read the entire booklet this classroom created, visit Mrs. Nixon's Third-Graders' Six-Word Storybook".

Submit Your Life Sentence in Six Words Here

It was very surprising what some people wrote in their six words. Some people were incredibly open...stories were sad or humorous or serious and often poignant. Now it is your turn to sum up your life in a six word sentence. Even if you are not a member of Squidoo, you can leave your sentence. It is no simple task. I have tried it; you will see what I mean. I penned four possible life sentences for myself, none were perfect or quite right. Don't aim for perfection...just leave something, in six words, that tells us all about you. I know you are up to the challenge!

Please use this space for your six word sentence. You can consider it an experiment, after all your life is still evolving! And YES, please feel free to come back and leave another six words!!!

This is also the moment and the appropriate place for your general feedback and comments on my lens. Did you find it difficult to write your six word life sentence? Is there anything I can do to improve this lens? I'd welcome your input.
