What is Youth for Human Rights?

Youth for Human Rights (YFHR) is an independent non-profit group which has its headquarters in Los Angeles. Its purpose is to educate people all over the world on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, so that they will promote and advocate these rights all over the globe, from a grass-roots level on up.

YFHR holds events to raise awareness of Human RIghts issues around the world. The organization also produces videos and educational tools to raise awareness of Human Rights. One example of their products is the award-winning music video, UNITED, which promotes the power and importance of human rights awareness.

Recently, YFHR produced a series of 30 audiovisual human rights videos, which serve as public service announcements. Some of these videos are featured on this lens.

Youth for Human Rights has been assisted in its establishment and development by the Church of Scientology. For more information on the history and development of Youth for Human Rights, see History of Youth for Human Rights International.

Human rights are the bedrock on which commerce is founded. Without the implicit agreements enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights being upheld, all that is left is chaos. Chaos brings fear, uncertainty and doubt and poverty. But with Human Rights honored, you have rule of law, which promotes property rights which leads to the order needed for commerce to occur. If you are buying eggs in a market, you need to know that they are not rotten, and that what you offer as exchange will be accepted at a fair rate of exchange. As you can see a simple transaction relies on all that arises from Human Rights.

Next time you go to the store, tick off a list of the Human rights touched on by your visit. Will it be all of them?

I have seen the Human Rights videos several times and they always bring tears to my eyes. Unfortunately, there are still human rights violations all over the world. The Church of Scientology is highlighting these problems and bringing them to public attention -- problems that are hard to confront. But they must be confronted for all of us to be truly free.

My son really has taken to the Youth For Human Rights message. He is inspired to let others know what THEIR human rights actually are. He has been half way around the world and has observed violations of basic human rights for himself, so this movement has struck a chord with him that I believe will stay with him throughout his life. He is 7 years old.

I thank the Church of Scientology for their role in establishing this wonderful movement. If every person on earth used these ideas then the world would truly be a safe and harmonious place for all.
