The latest news (9th June -08) is that now the work has started to build and open the hostel. It will be called Jumbo hostel and the booking site will open in December 08. Here is a vision of how it is to stay in the former cock pit
Good use of a jumbo jet that stopped flying
Oscar Diös has bought the plane and is planning to open a youth hostel
Nobody has done anything like this before says Oscar Diös, the man behind the idea. He has already three Youth Hostels in Uppsala, Sweden.The Boeing 747 has been there since the Company Transjet stopped flying 2002.
Before it can be used there has to be a major reconstruction. The plane is not in good shape now.
They have to throw out the 500 chairs and build about 80 beds attached to the walls instead.
Cockpit will be turned into a little suite with part of the equipment still there.
Oscar Diös has got the "Go ahead" from the authorities and is now discussing the details with The Swedish Board of Civil Aviation!
I have heard that there are plans to build more Youth Hostels like this on other air fields around the world! They will be named JUMBO HOSTEL
Why call it YOUTH hostel? I, myself (62) would love to stay in a place like this!
