My Grandfathers Song
I recently saw Jimmy Barnes (an Australian Rock Legend) and David Campbell (another Aussie Singer, extremely talented) perform You'll Never Walk Alone on one of the Australian Christmas Carol shows - 2008 Carols By Candlelight at the "Sidney Myer Music Bowl".
David Campbell is Jimmy Barnes son, and seeing these two perform this one song with such passion and feeling was an experience in itself...
This lens is a tribute to the song... and maybe the singers....
The man in the photo is my grandfather, who passed in 1982 after battling cancer. He was an amazing man and sadly missed. This lens is a dedicated to a truly wonderful man.

You'll Never Walk Alone
Performed by Jimmy Barnes and David Campbell
Then along came this guy called, David Campbell and boy could he sing. Turns out, David is the Jimmy Barnes son... David is so different to Barnesy.. Jimmy was your quintessential rocker, David an entertainer who was initially drawn to acting, but boy can he sing to.
It was a pleasure watching these to icons of Australian music perform together, particularly knowing that they are father and son.... however, I cried and my heart warmed at the end of the song -- watch the whole 4 minute video - you'll see.
Origins of the song
From wikipedia.org"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel.
In the musical, in the second act, Nettie Fowler, the cousin of the female protagonist Julie Jordan, sings "You'll Never Walk Alone" to comfort and encourage Julie when her husband, Billy Bigelow, the male lead, has killed himself after a failed robbery.
The song is reprised in the final scene to encourage a graduation class of which Louise (their daughter) is a member. Billy attends this ceremony during his return to earth and inspires them with his words of encouragement to assure them of his love.
I've seen Carousel and the song is just beautiful... however, knowing that this is a song that my Grandfather used to sing to my Mum, makes it even more special.
Lyrics To You'll Never Walk Alone
Now, you can sign along too...
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

- I remember Jimmy Barnes from when I visited Australia in the early 90's. He was really a big deal in Australia then as I imagine he still is now. What a beatiful song and tribute to your Grandad.
