What To Wear to the Yule Ball
Ranked #2,612 in Holidays & Celebrations, #32,115 overall
Poor Ron Weasley
Ron: "What are those?! What are those?!"
Harry: "My dress robes!"
Ron: "Well they're all right! No lace, no dodgy little collar..."
Harry: "Well, I expect yours are more traditional..."
Ron: "Traditional? They're ancient! I look like my great aunt Tessie!... I smell like my great Aunt Tessie! Murder me, Harry!"
- Ron Weasley and Harry Potter before the Yule Ball
You probably remember this scene from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Ron's mother sent him a hand-me-down dress cloak that embarrassed him with its frills. Oh if only his mother could have done a little shopping before the event. This year you can relax and enjoy yourself at the Yule Ball because you will have picked out just the right outfit to make your presence noticeable as you walk in the door.
Not going to the Yule Ball this year? Probably don't have a date, eh? Well don't worry, New Year's Eve is right after Yule and these gowns and robes would be fabulous to welcome in the New Year.

Don't Forget Your Dress Robes
Ron: "What are those?! What are those?"
Harry: "My dress robes!"
Ron: "Well they're all right! No lace, no dodgy little collar..."
Since a Yule Ball is typically held on or near the Winter Solstice, one might expect it to be a bit chilly. It might even be snowing. Therefore you will want this warm cloak which can also double as a dress robe. You will notice there is no lace or dodgy little collar.

Maybe You Want Something More Exotic?
The Patil twins, who were Harry and Ron's dates for the Yule Ball, wore what is known as a lehenga choli (also spelled lehnga) in reversed pink and orange colors. It was difficult to find something that resembles their outfits, but I believe this is quite similar, especially if you drape it as they do in the movie.
"Indian Block Print Items are very much in Fashion now days. That's why here we present New Hand Block Print Lehnga Choli with Different & Sexy Look.......A perfect Traditional dress Just for You.....This Marvelous Dress is not only Gorgeous but in the step with the current trends." Perhaps You Prefer an Oriental Style?

Cho Chang was Cedric's date at the Yule Ball which caused Harry quite a bit of frustration because he had asked her to go but was too late. Cho's dress reflects her Asian heritage.
This Chinese qipao dress captures the flavor of Cho's beautiful gown. It is made of silk fabric with the Chinese dragon patterns with the inlaid graceful black piping.

So What Have You Decided?
I want to thank J. K. Rowling for creating the fantastic world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It has been so much fun to send ourselves there in our imagination.
But Yule Balls are not just at Hogwarts. Many pagans celebrate winter solstice with a Yule Ball. There are lots of other reasons to dress up and "let your hair down" as Professor McGonagall said. (Odd, considering that most of the girls had their hair up).
Well, anyway, I am so glad you stopped by and went shopping with me. I did invite Mrs. Weasley, but alas, she is still short of funds. I did read that Harry gave the Weasley twins his winnings from the Triwizard Tournament for their business with the stipulation that they use some of it for new dress robes for Ron. (Harry Potter Wiki)
Feel free to leave a comment. Do you have a favorite dress? I like the fairy one myself.
