You will be sadly missed by all Zander
Zander was diagnosed in September of 2007 with Stage 3 cancer. He was having a problem going to the restroom so his parents took him to the Dr. they started Zander on Miralax, after a week there was no improvment so his parents took him back to the Dr.The Dr. found a lump, which made them order a ultrasound and it showed that Zander had a tumor on his left kidney. That night he had a CT Scan and it showed the tumor was all the way around the left kidney. He had a six hour surgery the next day to remove his kidney. A port for chemotherapy was placed during the surgery. Studies confirmed that the tumor was in fact a Stage 2 Wilms' tumor. He kept asking us for "num nums and juice please". Zander was unable to eat for days due to his nasogastric tube. His arms were restrained because he tried to pull out his foley catheter. I can't say that I blame him! He never let the surgery get him down. Zander may have lost his kidney, but never his spirits! He quickly resumed being a two year old little boy.
During his last day at the hospital, he received his first dose of chemotherapy. Zander continued having his weekly chemo treatments. We finally thought that we were out of the clear and had beaten this, but we were wrong. Some of the cancer cells had already spread. Zander ended up growing another tumor. This time it is wraped around his spine. The larger the tumor is the more it pushes against his spinal cord. It is to risky to have surgery on it, but they did biopsy it to see if it was cancer. Sadly the results came back positive for cancer. They wanted to run more test. When the results came back it shocked us.The cancer had alreay spread to his lymph nodes and is now stage 3. The doctors gave us several options that we can take, but they would only prolong his life. With the treatment they say he might have a year or so left.
Zander's lives on in everyone's hearts
even those who did not know him
Zander's continued to fight
Such a brave little man
This broke his parents hearts as they hoped that it was getting better but there were 4 new tumors. At which point his mom and dad were taking this news very hard as anyone would.
His father came in and announced the bad news, and hearts broke right along with theirs. People who had never even met Zander were praying for this sweet little man to get a miracle. Sending his name onto prayer chains, and praying themselves.
Again another Dr. visit as Zander had started to bleed. He was in the hospital till hospice could be arranged, and then he went home to his mom, dad, and baby brother(who was born two months after they found out about Zander's cancer)
Leo who is Zander's father came in and thanked everyone for showing his family support and let everyone know how much it meant to them all. It kept their spirits and hopes high.
Everyone continued to pray for Zander and held hopes that he will still recieve a miracle to help him get past the cancer and be a happy healthy little boy.
Zander's final farewell
all will miss you sweet prince
All the supporters kept checking daily to see if there was news on his condition but still no word.(they had all they could do with Zander and his little brother) We all prayed and continued to pray and have him on our minds, and never far from our hearts.
Then on feb.25th,2008 we saw the post on the Group:
Zander went up to heaven tonight! At 12:42 Zander took his last breath in his dad's arms. He had a pretty good day today. He was cranky this morning, but as the day went on it got better. All he wanted to do was cuddle with Chloe or Leo. Zander went peacefully and he wasn't in pain. He was cuddling with Leo watching a movie when he told Leo that nana was there to get him. Nana is Zander's grandma that passed away 4 months ago.
RIP Little man! We love you and will never forget you!

As we all read this tears began to fall down on our cheeks, just streaming, for the loss of the angelic little angel that has gone to a better place. He will never feel pain again, he will run and play, never have to worry about hospital stays,or chemo again.
He will get his wings that sweet little angel. He has worked so hard to get them by being such a brave little soul. Now he is free to do as he chooses with no restrictions.
Watch over your family Zander as they will miss you but you will never be forgotten, for you sweet prince shall rest now. You will be sadly missed by all, those who knew you and those who prayed for you but never met you.

The only thing his parents wanted
no fundraisers, no money, only a few small things
BUT there are soooooooo many ways you can help. Zander is gone but there are going to be other moms faced with the same problems as Chloe... what would mean the world to Chloe is to donate to help find a cure for Childhood cancers.
*Donate money for cancer research.
*Register to be a bone marrow donor.
*Donate blood.
*Donate to charities that offer financial asistance or support to the children's families.
*Send a card or a small gift to a sick child.
*Give toys, books, video's, vidio games, vcr's, tv's ect....to the Children's Hospital.
*Offer airline miles to children and their families that need to travel far for treatments.
*Attend a local fundraiser or benefit.
*Make a meal and deliver it to the family. This is especially nice to receive after a lengthly hospital stay.
*Help organize a benefit or offer your services.
*Donate your long hair to make wigs for children under going chemotherapy treatments.
*Prayer and kindness.
I am going to add to this list a few items that I'm sure Chloe would agree with.
* Donate to Make-A-Wish foundation-they give kids with terminal illness's a wish and it can be for whatever they want.(you can make the donation in Zander's name as well if you choose)
* Donate to Melonhead.org-they get medicines and other things for children with Cancer.(The founders daughter had cancer and passed from it,so she started this organization)
Give kids the world- They are a housing spot that has children with terminal illness's stay there, they have a little amusement park, the families stay, eat and do activities at no charge to the family.
Little Man
Hey Little Man, this is for you,
You are the one who made us laugh,
You are the one who made us cry,
We are the ones that had to say good bye,
Now you are the one looking down at us,
You are our guardian angel, that not every one has,
You are the breeze that we feel
Now you are gone and we don't know how we will heal

Why do this lens?
to get awareness up
I wanted to raise awareness,of what you can do to help a family who is dealing with a family member that has cancer. Offer to give them a ride to the Dr,or treatment,or bring them a meal, something that will show them you care.
I for one have a son who has a brain stem tumor,my boyfriends ex-wife,and his brothers that all have cancer. So we are very aware of how this effects families. There are others who have family members with cancer can relate to what families go through.
Everyone has a story but there is so much that we can do as a community to help these families. So if your not doing anything because you don't know how to help, Chloe has made a wonderful list that will give you some helpful ideas on how you can show them you care. If you are even an ear that they can have listen, you have no idea how much that means to a family or a cancer patient.
There are many organizations that help children and adults who have cancer. I will be listing some that you can also make donations to that could very much use the added funds to keep these wonderful programs going. You can donate in a loved ones name or in Zander's. These are all worth while charities that can use all the support they can get.
*Camp teen angel- They send siblings, sons, daughters,
and so on to camp to give them a break from the daily dealing with cancer and let them have a fun week away from their lives.
* Ronald Mc Donald houses- They are everywhere, volunteer there, make a donation, and see exactly what your doing to help your community,
as well as families who are dealing with Cancer.
*Melonhead.org- Helps to get medications for cancer patients free of charge. This organization is named after the founders daughter who had cancer and her friends and family lovingly called her this when she lost her hair from treatments.
*Ride4Kids.org- this is a group of motorcyclists that ride for kids with Brain Tumors and raise funds for brain tumor reasearch as well as gives students a scholarship for college that have brain tumors.
* Starlight foundation- They grant wishes for kids with illnesses, they can choose anything the sky is the limit.
*Make a wish foundation- They also make wishes come true for kids with terminal illnesses. (they sent our family to florida for a week all expenses paid for my son who is terminal, amazing trip, he is still talking about it 3 years later.)
*Shriners club- they get medical attention for children who need extra funds, they bring them to the hospitals, pay for their visits and treatments, and are very supportive. This is a wonderful group and can always use funds.
*Cancer Center of America-They treat many cancer patients and can always use funds
*St. Jude's hospital- They deal with a lot of different illness's but always are in need of funding.
The list goes on and on,I hope this helps those who were wondering what they can do to help with the cause. This is a very real illness and it effects so many people from birth on. Your support in any of these programs will be greatly appreciated by them and you will be helping another family that is going through a rough time.
A Poem for Zander and his family
Written by another mom who supported him through prayer
UNTITLED
With each day that goes by,
I may never understand why.
Given to us a precious boy,
Who has brought us so much joy.
I look into your dreamy eyes,
And comfort your every cry.
That gentle little kiss,
Is one that I'll surely miss.
Wiping away all the tears,
Wanting to rid away all your fears.
Looking at your beautiful face,
Feeling your sweet embrace.
Holding you tight in my heart,
Knowing we may have to part.
No longer wanting to see you in pain,
In our hearts you will remain,
Forever our sweet little boy,
Who has filled our lives with joy!
RIP SWEET BOY!!!!

- RIP Zander, although we were never able to meet, you are very near and dear to my heart. There was not a day that went by that I didn't think about you and even though you got your wings you are still always on my mind, as well as the family your leaving behind. They are so lucky to have an angel like you watching over them. Keep them safe little prince.
I do have to say you were a very brave little boy and have made a lasting impression on your whole support team, who prayed so very hard for you and wished that we could have done so much more. The light that shined in your eyes, that huge bigger then life smile will be missed. Stay with nana till you meet your parents again one day.

- A blessing here on earth and now a blessing in heaven. You are better than any angel could ever be because God has chosen you to be His. May the Lord watch over your family until the day you meet again. : )
