I once set out to buy every Zappa album (there's more than 60 of them).   I own quite a few LPs and CDs, but haven't completed the mission yet.

What's great about Zappa is that you can always go back, sometimes many years later, listen to an album you haven't heard in a while and still enjoy it.   That's really tough to say about most recording artists, IMO.

I recently went through Joe's Garage - all three acts - and laughed and marveled at the genius that is Zappa.   I wish he was still around.

Biography

I've read a few of the Zappa bios over the years. This one was one of my favorites of the bunch.

5 of my favorite Zappa albums

Actually, picking 5 is quite difficult. I'll probably change my mind in a week, but here goes.

Disclaimer on Frank Zappa Meets the Mothers of Prevention. This is nowhere near the best musically, but it was a huge statement in the 80s, and one that had me on the floor when it was released. Zappa outsmarted everyone.

I've been a Zappa fan since I bought Sheik Yerbutti back in high school. Many years, albums/CDs and concers later, I still enjoy his music and unique social commentary. Great lens, 5 stars.

Greetings, Seeing how this a Frank Zappa fan site, I thought you'd like this YouTube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWCdlrAVqTU&feature=channel_page

In it, Essra Mohawk, who Frank invited to join the Mothers of Invention when she was just 19, speaks on CNBC of Frank's charisma. Essra is a legendary artist whose 1970 PRIMORDIAL LOVERS was rated "top 25 album of all time" by Rolling Stone. Enjoy...

If anyone is in the San Francisco bay area and wants to see some 15 year olds play a 2-hour set of Zappa classics accompanied by none other than Napoleon Murphy Brown, head to the Make Out Room in San Francisco March 26th at 8pm. A second smaller show will be on March 27 at 7pm at the Clubhouse Theater, Suite 502, 414 Mason Street, San Francisco. Hey Corey! I have been a big Zappa fanatic for a long time. I am in my 40s and over the years I have turned a lot of younger people on to Zappa.

It's for sure that Frank is not for everyone, so I'm sure glad I'm one of them. There are such few artists that are as talented and as influential as Frank Zappa. Director, musician, lyricist, and activist I'm sure many folks would never even know how many young careers he launched throughout his career. Truly worthy of much more praise than I could craft here, maybe I'll have to do my own lens on him just to demonstrate my appreciation.

    Thanks for sharing.

Frank Zappa at a Glance

Frank Vincent ZappaUntil discovering his birth certificate as an adult, Zappa believed he had been christened "Francis", and he is credited as Francis on some of his early albums. His real name was "Frank", however, never "Francis." Cf. Zappa with Occhiogrosso, 1989, The Real Frank Zappa Book, p. 15. (December 21, 1940 ? December 4, 1993) was an American composer, electric guitarist, record producer, and film director. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz, electronic, orchestral, and musique concrète works. He also directed feature-length films and music vide...

The amazing Hendrix/Zappa Guitar

Jimi Hendrix famously burned his guitar during a performance at the Monterey Pop Festival.

Frank Zappa later bought the guitar, and I heard it was playable. In fact, I heard Steve Vai played it during a Zappa tour.

The guitar is late 60s Fender.

Doesn't that feel good.
