Christmas Tree
My kitten thinks
the Christmas tree
is more than something
just to see.
She taps the balls
of green and red,
and swings the tinsel
overhead,
And rings the bells,
and starts to purr
as if we'd trimmed it
all for her.

I Heard a Bird Sing
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.
"We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,"
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

Santa's Hat Christmas Card and Postage Designs by Naturally Native Creations
Winter Night
Winter winds are blowing,
Snow is drifting deep;
Cuddled under cover,
Earth has gone to sleep.
Cozy in their houses
Little children stay;
Where bright fires are burning
To keep the cold away.
Snug in caves and burrows
Wild things safe are curled,
While the feet of winter
Tramp across the world.

Crumbs on the Snow
When it's winter and the snow
Like a tablecloth is spread,
I remember hungry birds
And see that they are fed.
On their snowy tablecloth
They find my gift of bread.

Forest Friends
The gracious fir tree--
sparkly green and forest free--
keeps warm in winter's winds
with yearly added limbs.
Upon its outstretched arms,
and adding to its charms,
perch friends and neighbors fair--
some singles and then a pair.
All nestled close together,
keeping warm against the weather
they sing a heartfelt toast--
giving thanks to their friendly host.

Today the forest
glistens white,
silvered with snow
that came last night.
The paths are gone,
no rabbits stir;
the only sound's
a scarlet whir
of cardinal wings
lifting high
into the blue
of winter sky.

Facts About Hibernation from Wiki
:For the ability of certain operating systems, see Hibernate (OS feature)
Hibernation is a state of inactivity and metabolic depression in animals, characterized by lower body temperature, slower breathing, and lower metabolic rate. Hibernating animals conserve energy, especially during winter when food is short, tapping energy reserves, body fat, at a slow rate. It is the animal's slowed metabolic rate which leads to a reduction in body temperature and not the other way around.
Hibernation may last several days or weeks depending on species, ambient temperature, and time of year. The typical winter season for a hibernator is characterized by periods of hibernation interrupted by sporadic euthermic arousals wherein body temperature is restored to typical levels. It has been shown that at least the arctic ground squirrel builds a need for sleep during hibernation, more slowly than normally, and must occasionally warm up in order to sleep.
