Zazzle invitation paper quality (what those invite paper really look like)

For those of you who are wondering about Zazzle's invitation paper quality, here is a photographic description of what they really look like. I did my best to capture all different types of paper colors and textures. All invitation cards come with their own white envelopes with a square flap, as shown in the photo on the left.

Invitation paper types

At the moment Zazzle offers six different paper types. You may also read Zazzle's own descriptions here.

BASIC - Smooth, 110lb cover-weight paper with a satin, non-glossy finish front. The back is also smooth and non-glossy. Contains 50% recycled content (10% post-consumer and 40% pre-consumer waste).
Color: White

RECYCLED - Smooth, 100lb cover-weight paper, non-glossy finish. Made with 100% post-consumer recycled content.
Color: White

FELT - Textured, 100lb cover-weight felt paper, with an embossed finish, non-glossy.
Color: Cream

LINEN - Textured, 90lb text weight, with embossed laid lines.
Color: White

SPECKLED - Smooth, 80lb cover-weight paper, non-glossy, with small flecks and fibers.
Color: Barley

METALLIC - Smooth, 110lb cover-weight with a bit of shimmer. It has a smooth and slightly reflective texture.
Color: champagne, silver, gold, ice

Basic paper

A modern save the date card with full ink coverage printed on zazzle basic paper.

Basic paper gives you the best value for your money. 110lb is nice and thick. The satin finish front is smooth but will not impart fingerprints. This is desirable for crisp photo invitations. Both the front and back are writable, though I would advise letting ink dry thoroughly to prevent smudging. Even though this is call "Basic" paper, the quality is substantial.

Recycle paper

An oak tree design save the date card with full ink coverage printed on zazzle Recycle paper.

Recycle paper is an eco friendly choice. For 100% post consumer recycled content, the paper is nice and bright. At 100lb, Recycle paper is a tad thinner that the Basic paper. The paper is smooth and writable on both sides.

Basic vs Recycle paper

Both the Basic and Recycle paper are not glossy. Basic paper reflect more light because it has a satin finish.

Photos shot in low light to demonstrate paper texture. The Recycle paper (design with tree) is more matte than the Basic paper.

Felt paper

Elegant save the date cards printed on Zazzle cream color Felt paper

This textured 100lb cream paper will make your invitations look more expensive than they are. The tactile quality is great for formal affairs such as weddings.

Script fonts with delicate strokes look sharp even though the paper surface is not smooth. Both sides are easily writable.

Linen paper

A lace design save the date cards printed on zazzle linen paper.

At 90lb, this paper is thinner than Basic paper, but the laid lined texture is elegant.

Again, script fonts with delicate strokes look sharp even on textured paper. Both sides are easily writable.

Felt vs Linen paper

Speckled paper

Speckled paper has flecks and fibers that lends its natural look. 80lb weight is the thinnest type. Contrary to Zazzle's preview, this paper is not textured. Both sides are writable.

Metallic paper

Metallic paper is worth the upgrade for festive and special occasions. At 110lb, this paper is thick. The shimmer is very suitable for holiday cards or any type of glamorous affairs. The colors from left to right are: Champagne, Silver, Gold, and Ice. Champagne is a warm white. Silver could look steel gray depending on the lighting situation. Gold is quite dark, almost like bronze. Ice is a bit more white than Champagne.

Metallic: Ice

Black and white scroll design save the date card printed on zazzle metallic ice paper

All metallic paper has a bit of shimmer in it. This Metallic Ice color paper makes this black and white design much more glamorous.

Metallic: Champagne

Festive red scroll save the date card printed on Zazzle metallic champagne color paper

This particular design has heavy ink coverage. The red color looks much more festive on this metallic Champagne paper. The Champagne color shows through the non ink covered area.

Metallic: Ice vs Champagne

Champagne has a warmer, golden tone while Ice is a bit whiter in color.

Metallic papers shown in both light and heavy ink coverage, shot in low light conditions.

*** Update August 04, 2011 ***

I've stocked up on a few more popular designs that people have been asking for. Above is an un-retouched photo of my recent order. Again the printing is crisp, the color more or less matches with what is being shown on screen. The Simple Chic invite in charcoal gray is simply fabulous in the metallic paper--it has a metal/gunpowder quality which is subtle and unique.
