Zecharia Sitchin's revelations about the colonization of Earth about 450,000 years ago by peoples from Nibiru (often referred to as Planet X), a 12th planet in our solar system have proved to be highly controversial in the scientific and religious world.
As fantastic as his theories might sound at first, the compelling evidence that he brings into play from the ancient documents that he has translated, chronologically verified in many ways by the Old Testament, are very logical. If you believe what Zecharia Sitchin is telling us from the ancient stories that he has interpreted, mankind was created by an alien race called the Annunaki, who genetically created us from a blend of prehistoric man and themselves.

Although it was ridiculed a lot by the scientific world when it was first published 30 years ago, Zecharia Sitchin's first book "The 12th Planet" and the subsequent books, collectively called "The Earth Chronicles" are now being taken more seriously.
The Earth Chronicles in fact make a very interesting read. The books are heavy going at times, with Sitchin trying to describe so much for you to digest and understand, that it sometimes takes several reads to comprehend fully what a chapter is about, but the events and history that he has uncovered is mind-blowing and well worth the read. Once you are hooked on reading Zecharia Sitchin, you just want to read and to learn more about our ancient past.
So much has changed in the last 30 years in our knowledge of the ancient world. There are numerous documentaries on The Discovery Channel and History Channel covering new discoveries about the ancient world, not just the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, but older civilizations that pre-date these, and every year new artifacts are being discovered, and we are being made aware of the deeper understandings of the technological levels of these peoples.
If the Gods of ancient Sumeria, ancient Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient Rome were really the same Gods, and also were real beings from Earth's distant past, not just characters from mythical tales, then this does give a whole new meaning to religion and the Gods that mankind worships. For this reason the leaders of the Catholic Church and the Jewish Faith keep silent about these theories, for if mankind was indeed created by an alien race, their having convinced countless millions of followers into believing otherwise, often as a means of maintaining control over the populace, could be cause for a revolt against religion.
I first became interested in ancient civilizations and earth's mysteries while at university, when Chariots Of The Gods was published by Erik Von Daniken. I read many books back then, on Atlantis and other mysteries of the past, and then more recently came across the works of Zecharia Sitchin. Whereas many other books listed strange artifacts and places, they didn't really manage to tie things together, whereas Sitchin paints a full picture, not just of some of these mysteries, but of the whole of man's existence on earth. The Earth Chronicles are really a great read and a compelling insight into our creation.

At the time when Zecharia Sitchin was writing his early books and was achieving quiet success, along came a book that blew us apart - Chariots Of The Gods written by Erich Von Daniken.
Chariots Of The Gods, which was originally published as a series of articles in a German magazine, and eventually published in 1968 after it achieved a cult following, became an instant best seller. Erich Von Daniken brings together a number of ancient artifacts and anomalies in our history, and attempts to attribute them to aliens.
Although there are many holes in his theories, he started the world thinking about the possibility that our planet was visited by aliens, leaving to an increased publication of other books on Atlantis, The Bermuda Triangle etc, and of course more interest in Zecharia Sitchin works.

Thirty years ago, Zecharia Sitchin began writing the Earth Chronicle series, which posits the theory (supposedly recorded in Sumerian myth) that extraterrestrials, the Annunaki, arrived on Earth eons ago and genetically engineered humans.
Much of this book is taken up with this as a background story, but that doesn't mean newbies can just jump in and fully comprehend everything immediately.
Although Sitchin helpfully highlights key points in boldface, there is a lot of background information which he describes in great detail in his earlier books, that make essential reading if this book is to be fully comprehended.
Readers attempting to deal with hundreds of thousands of years of history, ancient astronauts becoming human gods, and Sitchin's attempt to tie it all into biblical prophecies may wish they were on another planet.
And yet the series has legions of devoted fans who have been waiting to learn if the Annunaki are coming back and, if so, when.
Zecharia Sitchin notes that it's hard to determine where to start the countdown to the end days, which may be tied to the Aununnaki's reappearance. It might come in 2012, you never know.

- Interesting lens with a great layout for the large amount of information you have. As for the actual content though, I find that Sitchin falls victim to literalism and in his zeal to focus on just the body of work from the Mediterranean civilizations he fails to incorporate contemporary texts from different regions of the world.

- I've heard of him and his work, but I doubt a lot of the things he says. How come very few other reputable scientists support him or his findings? Until we make a proven connection that ancient aliens landed on Earth and guided the people here, there's no real credit to his theories.

- I have heard about Zecharia Sitchin before but must confess I have never read any of his books. Chariots Of The Gods I stumbled upon at a car boot sale some years ago and was hooked the first time I read it. There are so many theories out there it's certainly a topic which interests me, I think I might have to give one of his books a read. Very nicely done, blessed.

- Fantastic lens, I think you got every bit of biographical info out there on Stichin. I am a long time fan of his and I was sadden that he is not able to contribute with new info anymore. I haven't seen anyone step up to the plate of what he has accomplished since his passing, connecting the dots and having the knowledge to connect those dots will be missed. Fantastic lens, well laid out and informative

- I love unraveling ancient mysteries. I think Sitchin puts forth some valuable information that should at least be considered. At least he helps explain the so-called missing link and why mankind evolved so quickly.

I imagine he has hit a lot of truths in his theories but, like with many things, not 100%^ accurate but I do agree that religions like to debunk these theories as it is a threat to their own organizations and control of the populace. Nice lens.
