Halloween is around the corner and whether you're going out trick-or-treating this year or having a gathering indoors, remember to keep your dog safe. Things that are treats for humans are sometimes tricks for your furry friends.
Don't Feed Your Dog Chocolate
As a dog owner, you probably know that chocolate is poisonous to dogs. However, candies pose other threats to household animals. They can choke, or become ill because of other ingredients in the treats. Your pet may enjoy the candy, but he doesn't know that it'll cause him a stomach ache - or worse - later. Do your part as his guardian by keeping your treats away from your dogs.
Keep Your Dog Secure
This is meant in the emotional sense, but also in the physical. Dogs should be on leashes if you take them with you trick-or-treating (or anywhere). It's too easy for them to wander into the street, when so many people are out driving around that night, or to wander over to children who are eager to give them candy. If your Halloween takes indoors, take the necessary steps to keep your pets' nerves under control during festivities. Secure dogs in their designated areas to keep them from getting into treats or being bothered by guests.
