Do you want to learn cool magic tricks? I've included a lot of great resources below that may help you get started in learning some of the most amazing magic and mentalism tricks that will make people's jaws dropped to the floor. I will also update this page regularly with some more cool magic resources, so keep watching!
I've been interested in the art of magic for a couple of years and have performed some close up tricks to my family, friends and strangers. It is just really priceless to me seeing people's reactions and sense of wonderment when you perform. It also brings me a lot of joy and gladness to see how I can make other people happy with this wonderful art of magic.
My main interests are card tricks, metal bending, coin magic, mind reading, XCM, sponge magic and levitation. For people who are interested in magic, my main advice is to keep practicing and practicing until you can perform all the moves and subtleties flawlessly. I also found that practicing in front of the mirror can help a lot to understand the spectator's point of views while we perform. Practice all the necessary moves, sleights and patters at least 30-50 times before you actually perform the trick. This is to ensure that you gain complete mastery of all the necessary steps to accomplish the trick. Some misdirection is also necessary if you want to perform the secret moves without the spectator knowing it. Look directly into their eyes or look intently at something else can sometimes distract the audience's attention for a while, because in my experience, the spectators usually tend to follow your gaze when you perform.
Even though I'm not a pro magician, I've been performing quite a lot and also met a lot of annoying spectators (most of the annoying one are my family, so no harm done :-)). First, try to relax and enjoy the tricks when you perform. Don't put pressure on yourself. Watching your breath and release the tension in your mind may help a lot. Because if we are nervous, we can forget all the necessary moves or even do some deliberate mistakes that may ruin the tricks. However, if somehow we did something wrong, don't get discouraged. Just switch to another trick, relax and continue on. And if you can avoid, don't perform to grabby spectators that want to be the life of the party. They are the one that always want to examine everything and shuffle your deck of cards before you perform. Some audience management is really important in this case. Also, don't forget to watch your angle when you perform because some tricks are quite angle sensitive.
When you perform, start with simple tricks that will attract your audiences. Sponge magic or some easy card tricks are great openers to start your show. Then you can start to build the tension with some mind-blowing tricks and perform some of your coolest metal bending or levitation stuff. I also sometimes include some XCM moves in my magic performance. People are usually scared to play cards with you again after you show Five Faces of Sybil or Double Charlier Cut to them :-). My other advice is always keep Invisible Deck in your pocket, because that saves my lifes a lot of time. And finally don't forget our oath: "As a magician I promise never to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Magician's Oath in turn.

The Secret and Subtleties of Self Levitation

First, check out the video performance and explanation below to learn the secret!In addition to learning the method behind the Balducci Levitation, you also learn the following SIX subtleties:
1. Announce your intentions
This is one of those rare tricks that you want to say what you're about to do, BEFORE you actually do it. Many magic tricks depend on the element of surprise. However, the Balducci Levitation happens fast, you want them to be looking at your feet.
Also, if they're EXPECTING your feet to raise off the ground, they're more likely to assume that BOTH feet come off the ground when you do the levitation because that's what you SAID you were going to do! It's a weird kind of psychological misdirection, but it's effective.
2. Find your spot
By looking around for a good spot to levitate from, you do two things. First, you cause a false suspicion that the ground has something to do with the trick. Any time you can distract someone from the real secret it's a good thing.
Second, it gives you an excuse to be turned away from the audience (10:30/11 o'clock). You don't usually perform magic tricks with your back turned, so you will need a reason to turn your back on someone. Looking for a spot gives you that "out".
3. Make it appear difficult
People who believe in levitation believe that there is a kind of inner energy, or "chi", that can make people float. If that were the case, it probably wouldn't be easy. Otherwise, everyone would be doing floating themselves!
Also, if it were easy, why wouldn't you just float up into the sky? You need a good reason for only being able to lift a few inches off the ground. The fact that it is difficult and physically draining to make yourself float, gives you the needed excuse.
4. Wear pants
While it's possible to do this effect in shorts, the video thoroughly expains why it's better to wear longer pants. Just look at the difference in how my right foot looks as I'm floating! It's much better with pants, right?
5. "Hover"
Things that really float look very "airy" and "buoyant". You don't want this trick to look mechanical. As you're floating, slightly bounce up and down gently as if you were bobbing in the ocean. You could even "twist" a little. (If you go up on your left foot, twist slightly to the right and vice versa.)
6. Land hard/stumble
By landing hard, you give the impression that you were floating yourself much higher than you actually were.
By stumbling, you reinforce the idea that it is very difficult and draining to perform the effect. That way, no one will ask you to do it again! This is definitely a trick that you don't want to repeat for the same spectators.

Cool Hypnosis Technique - The Handshake Induction

The basic form of the Handshake Induction is that of confusion induction. In plain words, your target expects a certain set of circumstances to happen and is confused when what occurs does not match what they expect.This fact, combined with pacing and leading causes a rapid trance induction that can be deepened by rapid use of hypnotic language.
Here's how to do it:
Walk up to your victim confidently, make eye contact, raise your right hand towards them as if to shake hands and say:
"Hi, I'm pleased to..."
Break the handshake pattern NOW by doing something
unexpected:
* Adjust your cuff-link
* Scratch your nose
* Reach for a drink
* Grab their wrist and lift up their hand
* Grab your ankle
* Raise your hand up to your nose
* Do something unexpected!
But DON'T BREAK EYE CONTACT!
As you do this, pretend to slip into a trance, just let your mind go blank and let your facial expression follow. They will follow you!
And then continue:
"Sorry , I know what you're thinking, you're out of it... we all think that when this happens. So just RELAX. Just SLEEP. It's great that you're taking time to really think harder about it. It's as if you're unconscious mind, right now, is making atrance for you to SLEEP through.
You're drifting. Relaxing. Listening. And breathing deeper ... as you go into trance ..."
To release this type of trance, you might use a script similar to the one below:
OK ... as I count from 1 to 5
you'll awake, refreshed, relaxed and fully alert ...
one ... two
beginning to feel wide awake ...
three ... come back now ...
four ... wide awake ...
and five ... wide awake ...

How did Uri Geller bend spoons?

Geller's best known stunt was making a spoon or key bend by merely rubbing it. In reality he'd surreptitiously bend the spoon or key beforehand, then keep the bent part concealed in his hand. When showtime came around, he'd display the spoon or key to the audience with the bowl or flat side facing out, from which angle it looked straight. Then he'd commence rubbing, all the while keeping up a furious line of chatter. By and by he'd extrude the bent part of the spoon or key from his fingers, if you follow me, giving the appearance that it was bending before the audience's eyes.It sounds like there's nothing to it, but that's like saying the Sistine Chapel is just paint on plaster. Execution is everything to a magician, and Geller is a master of the art. Witnesses would claim they'd never taken their eyes off him, but videotapes would later show he'd distracted them just long enough to make whatever preparations he needed. Occasionally somebody would slip him a key or spoon too stiff to bend, in which case he'd claim his powers just weren't up to snuff that day. Paradoxically, these failures reinforced the idea that Geller was for real--if it was a trick, it'd always work, right?
Other tricks were even more simpleminded. To "see" a drawing inside a sealed envelope, Geller would secretly hold it up to the light. An assistant would signal the right answers to him when he was doing mind-reading demonstrations. He'd copy down license plates and makes of cars in the parking lot to dazzle audiences with his uncanny knowledge of their private lives. A child could do it. You could do it. Spoon Bending Performance
This is a metal bending performance by Malaysian mentalist, Robin Lim. From my observation of the way he bent the spoons, there are basically three different methods that he used in this performance:1. The first bend probably used a gimmicked spoon, maybe the "Autobend Silverware" by Devin Knight or "Perfect Bend" by Erez Moshe, because I've got the gimmicked spoon as well and the way he performs it is really similar to the way the tricks done.
2. The second one used the Chad Sanborn's method called "Optical Bend". You can learn this method in Chad's DVD called "Mind Bender".
3. The third one (where he bent 4 spoons simultaneously) used the "Cutlery Spray" method by Richard Osterlind. This one looks pretty cool if you can do it right. You can learn this method in Osterlind's DVD series called "Mind Mysteries" or in the "World's Greatest Magic: Metal Bending" DVD.
I hope I didn't say too much here, but I think it should be fine, since non-magicians won't have a clue of what I'm talking about :-)

XCM - Extreme Card Manipulation

XCM or ECM (Extreme Card Manipulation) is the most visual branch of live performance with cards which is also called "Flourishing". Flourishes are not "works of magic" in and of themselves, but rather lend a difficulty and dexterity level to any magic routine that is performed. In their present form, playing cards have only been around for about two hundred years, but the techniques that are applied to their handling are ageless. As those techniques are improved and refined, the Master Card Conjurer is able to not only find a selected card hidden in the deck, but so manipulate the cards through artistry that the magic "trick" turns into a "card kata" of sorts (much like the martial artists who know how to wield a sword, but at the same time, can place together a group of movements to demonstrate skill in a given set).
XCM "officially" stands for Xtreme Card Manipulation, though the ECM acronym is also used for Extreme Card Manipulation. XCM was first introduced by De'vo Vom Schattenreich and published for the first time in his interview in Genii Magazine in August of 2004. XCM is set within the category of card conjuring, but as a subset of card flourishing. It relies solely on the agility of sleight of hand card manipulation without engaging the spectator in a magic presentation. It does not involve card productions, color changes, back palming, or other "mystery sleights" that are often accompanied by a magician's patter. Rather, the deck itself is used in an ingenious manner to demonstrate the ability the card conjurer has in "manipulating" the 52 cards as a deck of cards. As a matter of fact, the identities of the cards themselves mean little in XCM. The Ace of Spades, for example, is simply a card that is part of a larger stack of cards. It is the deck as a whole which is broken up into parts and moved with nimbleness that attracts the viewer's eye.
The reason this art is not called simply called "card conjuring" or "card manipulation" is because of the nature of the act. It takes on the challenge of handling the full deck to move within extreme examples of agility and dexterity in both hands. The term "Xtreme" or "Extreme" does not refer simply to the difficulty of the moves (flipback, birdy fan, card spin, etc.) but to all the aspects of an XCM routine. Now, the card conjurer who takes the independent moves of XCM and incorporates them in his card conjuring routine will benefit himself greatly. The more a magician demonstrates ability in an art form, while at the same time creating card miracles, will be the real card conjurer.

I think this floating card performance is pretty cool. To be honest, I actually don't know precisely what method that she used in this trick, because there are many ways or gimmicks that you can use to accomplish this kind of illusion. But still, I think she is kinda cute to watch :-)

No, just kidding, folks... Diplopia is a really cool mentalism trick that can be done with any borrowed deck of cards. Here's the link if you are interested:
Symbiotic: Coin in Sugar Packet
Check this out: You borrow a coin from the spectator and have them mark it with a Sharpie marker. Then have them select ANY sugar packet in the entire restaurant (they can get it from a different TABLE if they want...really a free choice). Set it aside...keeping it in view at all times.
Show their marked coin. (Yes you can really show it...it IS their mark!). Then make the coin vanish COMPLETELY. It looks like the coin just disintegrated. It's gone from both hands, front and back. Clearly gone.
Then with your CLEARLY empty hands, slowly pick up the sugar packet and fairly tear it open. For the finish, let the spectator reach inside and take out THEIR SIGNED COIN!
Immediately hand the sugar packet (even the part you ripped off) out for examination. They will find nothing wrong with either the coin or the sugar packet. The props were borrowed, remember?

Nutty Magic Trick
Picture this: Your friend screws a nut onto a bolt. You put them both on the table and your friend covers them with his hat. From here on out, you don't touch anything again. Your friend clearly sees the nut screwed well onto the bolt up until the very last moment before it is covered by his hat. He agrees that the only way to get it off would be to move the hat, pick up the nut and bolt, and unscrew the nut.
Concentrate on the nut and bolt under the hat.
Concentrate...
Then look directly into the spectator's eyes, flash a wry smile, then turn and walk away.
The spectator can't resist. He peeks under the hat and lo and behold the nut has UNSCREWED ITSELF from the bolt! Talk about mind over matter, this is downright freaky.
