About Zippo Lighters

Zippo lighters have been manufactured by the Zippo Manufacturing Company located in Bradford Pennsylvania since 1932. From 1949 to 2002 Zippo lighters were also produced in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Since 1933, over four hundred million Zippo lighters have been manufactured. The Zippo lighter became popular in the United States during World War II. At that time Zippo ceased production of it's metal lighters for consumer markets and dedicated all manufacturing efforts of this now very popular lighter to the U.S. military. These lighters would function in the harshest weather and wind conditions making them very popular with soldiers. Zippo lighters prior to World War II were made of brass. During the war years the lighters were made from steel. Older lighters with advertising on them and Vietnam era lighters are quite popular with collectors.
