Zone Diet Plan

Basic Effects of The Zone Diet Plan

The Zone is a method of dieting that seems to go against most conventional dieting methods. You don't have to cut back drastically on the amount of food you eat, you can pretty much still eat "yummy" foods, you don't wind up weak and dizzy, and you avoid those little hunger pangs that tempt you to snack between meals.

The main reason The Zone differs from other diets is that its focus is not on calorie intake. Conventional diets blame excess calories as the main reason why the body gains weight. To address this, these diets often make people almost starve themselves silly in an effort to reduce calorific intake and lose weight. The Zone, however, focuses on balancing the body's insulin levels instead.

Insulin serves several purposes; it regulates weight via metabolism; too much and your metabolism overloads and slows down because it is attempting to handle the excess. The slowed metabolism makes you gain weight. Too little insulin, on the other hand, makes your body sluggish and weak, which can serve to either make you lose weight and energy drastically or make you over eat as your body sends a lot of "hunger" signals to your brain in an attempt to compensate.

What Makes the Zone Diet Plan Different?

A balanced insulin level keeps your body's metabolism regulated enough that you will reach your body's ideal weight naturally. Also, insulin is one of the main chemicals in the body that signals the brain when your stomach is "full". Having a balanced insulin level means that you will eat only when your body really needs to, no more and no less.

One of the most significant effects of The Zone diet is not rapidly noticeable weight loss. Instead, it is an increase in the body's general level of energy. This is noticeable in anything from 4 days to a week of starting the diet. Dieters wind up feeling much more energetic, relaxed, focused, and calm. Part of the energy and zip comes from the fact that your metabolism will be running efficiently, so your body's use of energy will likewise be improved.

The improvements to mental focus, calm, and loss of stress that often also accompanies this diet is due to the fact that insulin is a hormone, and likewise has an effect on the overall balance of all hormones in your body. As most athletes and women probably know, hormonal imbalances in a body can lead to loss of mental focus, crankiness, stress, and general emotional instability. The balancing of insulin greatly contributes to keeping your body chemistry on an even keel.

Aside from the two factors given above, a very helpful effect of maintaining your insulin balance via the Zone Diet is the loss of hunger pangs and the urge to snack "a little bit" between meals. Insulin is one of the primary chemicals in the blood stream that tells your brain when your stomach is full. Some very harmful "diet pills" actually overload the insulin levels (among other things) in the body to fool the brain into always thinking that the stomach is full. This can lead to malnutrition, among other things. With the Zone Diet, the foods you take keep your insulin levels balanced. The key word here is balance! You WILL get hungry, but only when your body actually really needs to eat. Those little "extra snack" urges are the ones that go away, contributing to your weight loss.

Does the Zone Diet Plan Work?

Now, the above three factors are what actually lead to weight loss from the Zone Diet. The increased physical energy makes you more prone to strenuous physical activity, which helps weight loss. The improved mental focus keeps you from getting too lazy to move around. The avoidance of extra snacks ensures that your body reaches it's ideal weight (determined by height, bone structure, and general level of physical activity) quickly.

Lastly, keep in mind that the main goal of this diet plan is to get to your ideal natural weight, NOT to shed unwanted fat quickly like a dog shaking off water. If you're after a body that's rail thin and looks like a clothes hanger, this diet plan might not work for you. Your ideal natural weight might not be everybody's idea of sexiness or masculinity - it WILL, however, be at the peak of healthiness, which is much more important. The sexiness or masculinity part, you have to work (exercise!) for once you get there.
