Zoom H2 Digital Recorder Review
"5 out of 5 stars - Great Sound"
I bought the Zoom H2 to use for podcasting my Sunday morning sermons. Previously I had been using a small Olympus voice recorder hooked through our sound board. It was really not suitable to the task. When I bought it I was not as familiar with digital recorders as I should have been. I ended up wasting about $80.00. The only other digital recorders I was familiar with were 8-16 track recorders by Yamaha, Roland and other companies and these were way too expensive to use for simple podcasting. The H2 is easy to use. The small screen may be a difficulty for some but once you know how to operate the recorder it is all a breeze. We ran a cable from an out on the sound board and connected it to the mic input of the H2. The mic input seemed to work better than the line input. This has produced a very clean sound which would be excellent for broadcasting if were on radio. So, it is more than adequate for podcasting.
I also used it to do ambient recordings of our Choir at Christmas. The result was surprisingly good. I was able to make a CD for the choir to review. It was almost as good as the demo CD that came with the musical.
We also had a guitar quartet which played during the Christmas season. Since I knew the concert would be about 40 minutes I was able to record it as a 24 bit, 96 kHz wave file. The file nearly filled the 2 gig sd card. It was an excellent recording.
Obviously these are not recordings that one would master and sell on the market. But for the size and the price the H2 exceeded my expectations. I am pleased with the recorder. For the task I had, it was perfect.

"Worth Its Weight in Gold"
This $200 miracle has revolutionized my life as a pro musician no end. The H2 works so easily, and you can't accidently record over your good takes. I now record my students' performances, enhancing my Music Instruction biz big time.I've recorded dozens of simple demos already, and when our original band records, we're using the Zoom for an extra snare drum track -- sounds cool, too! The recorded wave file imports straight into our multitrack recording software via the included USB cable. Playing to a mixdown of our basic tracks, I recorded several guitar tracks onto the Zoom at home; then I took it back to the studio, and VOILA!
My co-guitarist was so knocked out by my Zoom H2, he handed me cash to get him one. That's why I bought two of them. My friend is just as pleased as I am.
Be sure to get a 2GB SD Card for 6 hours of high quality stereo recording (NOT THE 4GB, the H2 won't support it). It runs several hours on 2 rechargeable AA batteries. You'll love the metronome, surround sound and so many other features that I don't have time to go into right now. Even the Zoom H2 Manual is easy to follow...
I JUST LOVE MY ZOOM H2!

Zoom Digital Recorder Review
"Absolutely Fantastic"
This model is about the highest-priced recorder before hitting $300 and beyond. It cost more than I was wanting to spend (with my pathetic student budget), but it's absolutely worth it. My ultimate test, which came only days after receiving the recorder, was to pick up ambient noise during a loud game at the Pepsi Center, in Denver. Blasting music, announcers, hitting, clapping, cheering, fan commentary. But using the various settings, I was able to pick up all ambient noise, or just zone in on specific noises or people. Every single second was usable in high definition. The sounds slide show was later published on the team's Web site.
My one complaint is that this recorder simply looks cheap. It has a plastic exterior that makes most people think that it's low-quality. It's not. It works a lot better than it looks. It was an investment for me--one that I'll continue to use in all my sound projects.
