Buy the Right Speaker System for Your Zune

Are you thinking about purchasing a speaker system for your Zune?
Don't throw your money away on the wrong one!
You're about to learn about three different systems so you can make the RIGHT choice.

With all the new products coming out constantly you want to make sure you're getting the most bang for your buck. Today you'll learn about three of the most purchased systems on the market, the Altec Lansing inmotion im414 portable audio system, the Kicker kz500 Zune speaker dock black, and the GPX zlive speaker system.

Kicker zKick Zune speaker dock

Simply put, the Kicker zKick is the single best sounding speaker dock. With an MSRP of $179 it had better have something going for it. It's compatible with all versions of the Zune, and uses the same connector as the Zune HD so it will be compatible with that, too. The 5" woofers and 3/4" tweeters are amazing for their size- the volume goes up to 40, but a setting of 15 is comfortably loud. Maybe I'm getting old.

The kicker zKick digital stereo is a solid design, simple to use, and have a great oomph when it comes to tight accurate bass. That is impressive for a unit in compact boom-box size! The treble performed very well, impressing me with the high notes of the constant cymbals found in most rock songs. When it comes to pure sound quality, but the kicker zKick zune speaker will not disappoint when it comes to audio quality or volume.

The Good: Clear highs, accurate bass response, and it's easy to use.

The Bad: The mid-range is a bit flat. Vocals can suffer.

The Verdict: The kicker zkick powered speaker system for zune is the top of the list, FIVE stars.

Altec Lansing inmotion im414 portable audio system

Altec Lansings new Im414 portable audio system for Zune has put a whole lot of sound in a tiny package. The Inmotion im414 offers rich deep base, and a surround effect feature that adds further depth to the music. Twin bass-enhanced neodymium speakers really do the trick. It won't put out the volume that the zk500 will but the mid-range frequencies are more accurately realized, better for those vocals.

The Altec Lansing Inmotion im414 is easy to carry and looks good in any room. That's nice because the volume limitations are going to necessitate being in the same room. The sound quality is great in an office or quiet den. If you want to save money with an MSRP of $99.95 and you aren't going to be using it at parties, it's certainly worth a look.

The Good: Excellent deep, rich sound. Runs on batteries. Easily portable.

The Bad: Small unit, best for small spaces.

The Vercict: Over all, the inMotion iM414 is an choice for small settings, FOUR stars.

GPX zlive speaker system

The zlive amplified speaker system is at the budget end of the spectrum with an MSRP of $69.99. The sound quality is adequate in a small environment but lacks the great bass response of the Altec Lansing. The trebles are also a bit constrained but oddly enough, the midrange vocals are pretty good. Don't think of using this unit as a boom box at the beach or on the subway. It will run on 2 AA batteries which will give an indication of its power.

The zlive speaker system is the lowest priced unit of the three and as such would make a nice gift for a child. Sound quality would be fine as background music in an office or den. It has a great remote that allows you to do anything the Zune unit itself will do and it has a bright clock display that can double as a night light.

The Good: Budget price, easy to use, great remote, reasonably good sound in the mid-range.

The Bad: Not designed for the audiophile. Lacking at the far reaches of the audio spectrum.

The Verdict: The zlive speaker system and docking station is a good unit for those on a tight budget, THREE AND A HALF stars.
